If you want to keep you car looking good and maintain the value, then you will have to look after the paintwork. Nothing reduces the value more than the overall appearance.

Wash you car frequently, at least once a week even in the winter. If you do a lot of motorway driving and live close to the sea, this really should be increased to twice a week.

Wax frequently, if possible after every wash.  If you do not drive a lot and your vehicle lives in a garage, then once every couple of months will be sufficient.

Remember when washing and waxing to pay particular attention to the undersides of the car. This is often overlooked, yet it's usually the first area for rust spots to appear.
