Scrabble is a board game full of challenges for all players. Scrabble is also a fun way to teach young children how to read the dictionary and develop their spelling skills with the added bonus of learning logic and mathematics.
Winning At Scrabble Trying to remember the entire Official Scrabble Player's Dictionary would be impossible, but it‘s not uncommon if all players are in agreement to consult the Scrabble oracle. There are three very important points to consider when you play. 1. The 7 letters you have to play with. 2. How to place your word or add to an existing word to obtain the highest score. 3. Don’t leave openings on the board for other players to score highly. Always consider your score, sometimes just placing one letter can generate a higher score, than placing a complete word. It might be smart to form a word eliminating double letters in your rack even if it's not the highest-scoring move you have available. See what's on the board before making a move. If only a few of the E's have been used, you might chose to create 'were' instead of 'ware,' reducing the chance you’ll draw a double tile. Learn as best as possible the number of tiles allocated to each letter, that way you will not waste your time for example, waiting for a ‘Q’ to appear to use with your ‘U’ when you can see it’s already been played on the board. Plan ahead to be able to create long words, possibly even using all the tiles on your rack in one turn (and thus earning bonus points). Don't concentrate too much on a particular word that you blind yourself to other options. Don't fear the Q, X, J or Z they offer you the chance to get some high scores. Doing a little homework revising all the little 2 or 3 words that you can create using these letters, will greatly improve your Scrabble score. If you get stuck with a lot of vowels, think about iodine -- and the dozens of other vowel-rich words available such as ‘cookie’. Like wise if you have a lot of consonants, there are legal words you can produce without vowels, such as tsktsk, myrrh and rhythm. Above all enjoy the game, you can’t win every time, but with practise you can certainly improve your game and eventually give your opponents a run for their money. |
